Did you market your biz today?

Here’s a prompt we should all tape to our computers: “Every day is marketing day.” (My thanks for this always-timely reminder go to Leslie Fishlock, CEO of Genevate, a home-based web development company in N. Falmouth, Mass.)

Leslie’s words came to mind recently when I recognized that I had fallen into a terribly familiar, terribly unhealthy pattern. The minute my work picked up a bit last month (after a near-standstill in April-May), the very first item of business I let slide was marketing outreach. I mean I dropped it like a hot potato. Big mistake!

If there’s one lesson that we home-based business owners and independent workers must take to heart, it is this: Consistent marketing outreach is absolutely critical to continued success. Always.

Remember, marketing can be as simple as staying in touch by email with past clients or posting regularly in the blogosphere. There’s just one rule to keep in mind: Stay focused on the customer’s needs. Always.
